The items found in the Staging Ground are not samples, quickguides or even demos in the strictest sense; they are unfinished products or snippets of them. Basically they’re a work in progress. Noctum has been designed to run everything from “safe” monster horror (Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark, etc.) stories to stories dealing with pure human tragedy and malice (The Last House on the Left, We Are What We Are, Borderland, etc.). The mature concepts within reflects this. This game is intended for mature gamers that have no problems handling these type of concepts and themes in a fictional setting.
This is the alpha draft of the first part of the 4th and revised edition of Noctum. It mainly consists of the main rules needed to play the game and the mythology (human malice manifested as creatures, nightmarish dimensional shifts and demonic possession, etc) has been left out in the Staging Area version with the exception of a few creatures. The final book will contain an additional 150 (give or take) pages dealing with the mythology and how to run the game. The first version of this game was written back in 2004-2005 while the bulk of this version was written 2009 and amended in 2013.
Feedback Notes: Read/play it and get back to me if you have time. I’m interested in knowing what you guys think about the feel of the game and the ambiance. I’m especially interested to know what you think about the added investigation system and if you think there are any skills that a game such as this might do without. As it has been some changes I appreciate if you give me an heads up regarding any inconsistencies in the rules. Also, the layout is still being tweaked and if you spot any major issues please shoot me a mail or leave a comment.
